LA Clippers Select Blake Griffin as No. 1 Pick in 2009 NBA Draft

Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft.

The pick was widely known for months as the Clippers made it known that Griffin was their man.

Griffin, the 6-foot-10 power forward, averaged 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds per game this season and swept every player of the year award in college basketball this year. He was named the Associated Press, the John Wooden Award, the Naismith Award and the Sporting News Player of the Year for the 2008-2009 college basketball season.

Griffin finished this past season with a Big 12 Conference record of 30 double-doubles (one short of the NCAA record set by David Robinson). He also set a record for the most rebounds in Big 12 Conference history in a single-season with 504.
