Students Learn Life Skills at Academic Summer Camp
Parents all over the country and the world entrust their local school systems to teach students the tools they need to be successful in life. Unfortunately, the majority of these tools are academic only. SuperCamp, a leading academic summer camp, picks up where schools leave off by teaching students valuable life lessons that, with application, can dramatically improve performance in school, relationships with friends and family, and help prepare them for future life success.
Two such life skills lessons SuperCamp teaches are about the comfort zone and living above the line. SuperCamp educators understand that everyone has a comfort zone that includes the people and activities they are comfortable with. Most students tend to keep inside their comfort zones like a turtle in their shell because it’s safe, easy, familiar, and yes, comfortable; while everything outside can seem challenging, risky, or dangerous.
SuperCamp encourages and empowers students to accept the challenge of moving outside their comfort zones even when everything within them is telling them ‘no’. The first step is usually awkward and uncomfortable, but soon the discomfort subsides and before long, students find themselves deep inside the learning zone. By moving into their learning zone, they have stretched their comfort zone by experiencing something new and exciting. As a teen’s comfort zone expands, so does their academic achievement and self-confidence.
Along with the comfort zone, students learn about communication and personal interaction by learning how to live Above the Line. Living Above the Line brings into play the concept of Ownership, which is one of SuperCamp’s fundamental 8 Keys of Excellence. Students learn that Ownership means taking responsibility for one’s actions and that when they do so, they are living Above the Line rather than Below the Line.
Those who choose to Live Above the Line take responsibility for their actions and develop greater control of their lives, which further generates greater academic and person success.
SuperCamp students learn to take ownership of their education, relationships, and attitudes affecting all areas of their lives and, in the process, improve their self-esteem and confidence.
Now in its 28th summer, SuperCamp has graduated over 50,000 students and armed them with the tools they need to be successful throughout their lives. This summer, SuperCamp will take place on seven college campuses across the country and reach more than 2,500 students worldwide between the ages of 11 – 19.
