Coming in to their game on Monday night the New York Jets needed a win. After declaring themselves Super Bowl bound for the last three straight years and failing to deliver, this year it seemed as though they wouldn't even be able to make the playoffs. A 3-3 record and infighting had the Jets headed the wrong direction until they met the 0-5 Miami Dolphins.
The defense was the dominant force in the game for the Jets. Darrelle Revis had two interceptions on the night, including one that he ran back 100 yards for a touchdown after grabbing a ball thrown well behind the intended target. After Miami's offense showed some potency coming out of the bye week after the first quarter they were unable to produce any significant yardage or put any more than two field goals on the board
Mark Sanchez turned in a solid performance after watching one of his receivers, Derrick Mason, get traded to the Houston Texans in the last week. He threw a 38-yard touchdown to Santonio Holmes and took another one in himself for a score. He finished the game 14 of 25 through the air for 201 yards. Running back Shonn Greene hleped with 74 yards on 21 carries.
Miami's offense helped New York look good. Matt Moore was only 16 of 34 for 204 yards and two picks. Top receiver Brandon Marshall had six receptions for 109 yards but was unable to find the end zone while being covered by Revis.
New York's captains for the game were Holmes and guard Brandon Moore, who had been fighting in the media after Holmes blamed the offensive line for not keeping Sanchez on his feet and giving him time to throw. After the game players and coaches alike said the incident was blown out of proportion and there were no issues in the locker room.
