All of the scoring in the first game of the World Series came in three innings as the Cardinals beat the Rangers 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth Lance Berkman drove in Albert Pujols and Matt Holliday. Up two runs going into the fifth inning the Cardinals' lead wouldn't last long.
In the top of the fifth Rangers catcher Mike Napoli hit a home run to right field that brought two runs in and tied the game. The Cardinals didn't couldn't respond until the bottom of the sixth inning. Allen Craig was in to pinch hit and sliced a ball to right field that landed merely inches in front of Nelson Cruz. On that hit the game winning run was scored.
The win is a good sign for the Cardinals as history has shown that the winner of the first game tends to win it all. An amazing turnaround from late in the season when only a historic collapse by the Atlanta Braves gave St. Louis their playoff spot.
