The Chinese toddler who was ignored by dozens of people after being run over by two cars in a busy market last week has died of her injuries. According to officials at the Guangzhou Military Hospital, 2-year-old Wang Yue passed away at 12:32 a.m. Friday.
"Her little life has left this world. We feel deep pain and shame as everybody does,” said the director of the hospital’s intensive care unit.
Video footage from surveillance cameras at the scene of Yue’s accident in Foshan shows the toddler being run over by two vans while bystanders continue on their way without stopping to help or even acknowledge Yue lying injured in the road. A 58-year-old woman then rushed over and moved Yue off of the road before trying to get help. Yue’s case sparked outrage across the world and prompted the online campaign “Stop Apathy.”
