The Detroit News reported that the author and his wife Christine Leonard split up earlier this year and she filed for divorce in May. She cited a breakdown in the marriage for unspecified reasons, according to the Washington Post.
The couple will now join the large percentage of seniors, who flock to divorce attorneys, seeking dissolution.
Leonard’s attorney, Gerald Cavallier, said it is “pretty standard as divorces go.” The trial is set for Dec. 12th.
Until a settlement is reached, Leonard has been ordered to maintain Christine’s personal expenses and cannot make any changes to his life insurance policy or transfer any assets, according to the Detroit News.
Leonard has written over 40 crime novels. Many of his novels have been turned into major motion pictures, the most notable being, “Get Shorty,” “Out of Sight,” and “Be Cool.” He has also written television screenplays including “Justified” for FX.
Recent studies have shown that divorces among seniors are growing at a higher rate than younger divorcing couples. All people no matter what their age can use a divorce lawyer to settle their finances.
Divorces are complicated affairs and in many cases assets and properties are at stake. When tempered with emptions it may be hard to make objective decisions on how to settle the terms of their divorce. These individuals can protect their interests by employing a highly-skilled divorce attorney.
