Since July 20, 2011 a new law has been in place that requires Taxi/Livery companies to have a criminal background check on file for all drivers and for the drivers to have I.D. Present in the vehicle and visible to passengers. The new law also calls for vehicle maintenance records to be kept on file.
Arizona Driver Verify, Inc., founded by former State Trooper Eric D. Ross provides those services and has recently launched a complete web portal in which a company owner can complete the process online. The web portal is a secure site and does not keep the information online once the process in complete.
Ross states, “Some companies have initially told us they will not comply with the new law”, but now that the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures has given a 90 day grace period, we expect an influx of new business, or disgruntled people that have received a $500 fine.
With the violent acts by drivers recently in the Phoenix area including a homicide committed by a driver, the companies will have a better source of screening by using our services and knowing if a driver has, perhaps a violent background. Although the law does not yet have any disqualifiers, more will be added at a later time, but for now the companies can self purge.
“The most compliant city has been Lake Havasu City”, states Ross. “The drivers and company owners have a great attitude and welcomed the service, all but one company is in compliance using our service”.
Arizona Driver Verify, Inc. offers a service guarantee, if a driver is our customer and receives a fine based on our error, we will pay the fine. Ross cautions that there are fly by night companies issuing I.D.'s with a stolen State of Arizona Official Seal, which has been referred to the Attorney General Office, and Arizona Driver Verify, Inc. will process those drivers offering a discount if they bring the I.D. Cards.
