DeMarco Murray was the breakout star of Sunday's NFL game between the Dallas Cowboys and the St. Louis Rams. By the end of the game he had not only helped the Cowboys win 34-7 but he also walked off the field with the franchise rushing record of 253 yards. He took the record from Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher.
To make the game even more amazing, Murray wasn't even the starter in the game. Tashard Choice and Murray were supposed to split the duties, but on Murray's first carry of the game he brought the ball from the Dallas 9 yard-line to the end zone for a 91 yard score.
In the fourth quarter the Cowboys were up 20-7 and clearly wanted to run the ball to take time off of the clock. Murray had 187 yards and a legitimate shot at reaching Smith's 18 year-old record of 237 yards. Murray needed on run to come close to the record, rushing for 43 yards to wind up 2 yards short. His next run went for eight yards and the record was his.
The Rams were not as astute on their side of the ball. A.J. Feeley started at quarterback for the first time since 2007. He had 20 completions, 196 yards and one interception, but could not lead the Rams offense on any sustained drives. Steven Jackson finished with 70 yards rushing, 46 of them coming on one drive.
