ACLU files lawsuit against ICE for raiding apartment complex in Nashville

The Tennessee chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against Immigration and Customs Enforcement who raided an apartment complex believed to house illegal immigrants without a warrant.

Obtaining legal status is possible for residents when they retain and Nashville immigration attorney.

ICE agents raided six apartments in the complex on October 20th. During the invasion agents held occupants at gunpoint and shouted racial slurs. When asked to produce a warrant, agents responded that they didn’t need warrants, according to a report in the TPM Muckraker. Six people were arrested.

The agents busted down the door of one apartment where four people were hiding in a room. They were held at gunpoint. One agent allegedly yelled out, “We got four here. Four Mexican sons of bitches!”

During the raid a number of racial slurs were shouted at the occupants, like “Little Mexicans.” Some were called wetbacks.

According to Boing Boing, the ACLU stated that agents detained and questioned a child playing soccer in a field simply because of the color of his skin.

Undocumented immigrants face many challenges, beginning with their struggle to become recognized citizens, which can be difficult even with the help of a Nashville immigration lawyer.

One of the major criticisms of the numerous controversial immigration laws passed by the states is that it leads to racial profiling. Immigration attorneys have obtained legal documentation for a large number of Latinos in the country.
