A small funeral for former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi was held at an undisclosed location early Tuesday morning, the National Transitional Council has confirmed. Also buried Tuesday in unmarked graves were Gadhafi’s son Mutassim and his defense minister Abu Bakr Younis. Several Gadhafi family members and officials were in attendance.
All three men were captured Thursday by revolutionary forces in Sirte, Gadhafi’s hometown. The circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear and is under investigation. It has been confirmed that Gadhafi was alive when rebel fighters found him hiding in a drain pipe along with Younis and several bodyguards. He was shot in the head while being taken to Misrata.
National Transitional Council head Mustafa Abdel-Jalil said a committee has been formed to investigate the deaths. "We have formed a committee to investigate how Gaddafi was killed during the clashes with his supporters while arresting him," Abdel-Jalil said. "All Libyans wanted to prosecute him over what he did to them, from executions to imprisonment, corruption, wasting their money. Those who have an interest in killing him before prosecuting him are those who had an active role with him."
