Man Arrested in Death Of China’s “Hit And Run Toddler”

Chinese authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man in the death of Wang Yue, the toddler who died last week from injuries sustained in two hit-and-run accidents. The state-run Xinhua news agency reports Hu Jun was behind the wheel of one of the vans that ran over Yue. Jun, who did not stop to help the 2-year-old, has been charged with manslaughter. It is unclear if the driver of the second van has been identified and arrested.

Yue died last Friday at the Guangzhou Military Hospital. "Her little life has left this world. We feel deep pain and shame as everybody does,” said the director of the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Video footage from surveillance cameras at the scene of her accident in Foshan shows the toddler being run over by two vans while at least 18 bystanders continue on their way without stopping to help or even acknowledge Yue lying injured in the road. A 58-year-old woman eventually rushed over and moved Yue off of the road before trying to get help. Yue’s case sparked outrage across the world and prompted the online campaign “Stop Apathy.
