Denver Area Residents Fear Asbestos Exposure

The residents of Denver who live near a trash compactor site fear that they have been exposed to asbestos. The landfill was once used to dispose of roofing and other materials thought to contain asbestos which in known to cause mesothelioma.

An article, which appeared in the Denver Post, stated that the landfill is also the site of a Titan missile silo closed in the 70s. Residents still dump items at the site that are compacted and then moved to another landfill.

The county gave Backhoe Services, a company that deconstructs missile silos, permission to test the soil but instead they started excavating the area.

County officials have stated that asbestos in the area is not friable, but residents are concerned that their health is at risk. Their plan is to remove any item which may contain asbestos and cover the area with clean dirt. As a mesothelioma attorney can attest, any asbestos exposure can be dangerous and not worth the risk.

Asbestos can become airborne and when inhaled become lodged in the delicate lining of the lungs called the mesothelium. People exposed to asbestos often retain mesothelioma lawyers to make the companies pay for the unnecessary harm caused to them.

Exposure to asbestos has numerous detrimental effects to human health and can cause the fatal form of lung cancer known as mesothelioma along with other pulmonary diseases. Workers, who have developed this disease, depend on the expertise of mesothelioma attorneys to seek compensation on their behalf.
