Salt Lake, Utah – A tractor-trailer carrying an estimated 460 beehives overturned on Interstate 15 in St. George on Sunday, unleashing close to 25 million bees.
The flat bed carrying the hives was covered in a net, but the bees escaped. Authorities are unclear how many bees have escaped and are working with the Utah Department of Agriculture to see how the bees can be recaptured or eliminated.
The cause of the accident has not been determined, but it took hours to clear the wreckage because of the angry bees. Interstate 15 was closed for several hours while crews tried to clean up the accident area. Because of the slowdown one vehicle ran into the back of the truck which caused a fire.
Several people were stung by the angry bees including a responding officer. The husband and wife team driving the truck sustained minor injuries and bee stings; they had to be taken to the hospital.
It is unclear who is at fault for this particular accident. But when a truck accident attorney can determine who was at fault they will be able to recover some of the costs associated with personal injury or property damage.
The damage or injuries of truck accidents can be significant as a truck accident lawyer can attest. The weight and size of a large truck can lead to extremely severe injuries or damage. For the accident victims, it takes an experienced truck accident attorney to recoup the costs attributed to the collision.
