New Jersey Employment Lawyer Discusses Governor’s Comments About Judge Feinberg

New Jersey civil rights and employment lawyers Kevin Costello and Deborah Mains, shareholders of Costello & Mains, have publicly stated their opposition to remarks by Governor Chris Christie personally attacking Judge Linda Feinberg.

“Judge Feinberg correctly applied the law in DePascale matter,” says partner Kevin Costello, a New Jersey employment lawyer. “And to have the governor personally attack the judge is a complete abandonment of his duty to act properly as a lawyer and to respect the other two branches of government.”

“This is yet another attempt,” says Deborah Mains, a New Jersey employment attorney and partner with the firm, “to intimidate the judiciary into deciding matters not as the law requires, but as the governor requires.  Removing Justice Wallace from the State Supreme Court for political reasons was bad, but this is worse.  It’s politicizing the judiciary in a way which is unseemly and which undermines the three estates of our government.”

“It’s also, in our view,” says Kevin, “a violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct governing lawyers.  If he were in private practice, he’d be severely disciplined for such a lack of professionalism.”
