LEED Gold Certification Awarded to Sarasota County Government

When Sarasota County decided to design and build a new 8,300 square foot office building, a task force of government, community, and architectural representatives decided to develop a more ecological and IAQ efficient commercial building.

The Twin lakes Office Complex in Sarasota, Florida was one of the state of Florida’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified buildings. Pure Air Control Services and their engineering/industrial hygiene staff provided the indoor air quality baseline commissioning for the project giving Sarasota County Government the maximum IAQ credits available ensuring the highest USA Green Building Council LEED-NC v 2.0 Gold Certification.

When Sarasota County decided to design and build a new 8,300 square foot office building, a task force of government, community, and architectural representatives decided to develop a more ecological and IAQ efficient commercial building. “One of the goals for the high-performance building” explained Alan Wozniak, CIAQP, CIEC President of Pure Air Control Services “was that indoor air quality (IAQ) meet or exceed the requirements of the LEED program.” The Twin Lakes building met the IAQ challenge. The newly-constructed building is home to the University of Florida-Sarasota County Extension offices. The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded the complex its prestigious Gold-level LEED certification.

“I applaud Sarasota County’s efforts to increase energy efficiency and use of renewable energy,”
Governor Crist said in a recent visit to the Gold certified building.  “I am honored to stand with such strong partners in the fight against global climate change.”

The typical environmental assays that the building scientists perform to achieve the US Green Building LEED 3.2 designation include:

  • Formaldehyde
  • Particulate (PM-10)
  • Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC)
  • 4-Phenylcycolohexene (4-PCH)
  • Carbon Monoxide,
  • Temperature & Humidity among others
“We are proud to be active with the US Green Building Council and equally proud to have assisted Sarasota County Government in achieving this distinguished LEEDS Gold Certification award” stated Alan Wozniak.
