Billy Mays, Famed TV Pitchman, Dies Suddenly Sunday At 50

Billy Mays, the famed infomercial pitchman, died Sunday morning in his Florida home. He was 50.

Tampa police say Mays' wife Deborah found him unresponsive at his Tampa-area home Sunday morning. Tampa Fire Rescue pronounced him deceased at 7:45 a.m.

The cause of death is unknown. Police say there were no signs of forced entry to the residence and there is no suspected foul play.

Police said Mays was on the US Airways flight from Philadelphia that had a hard landing Saturday at Tampa International Airport after the front tire under the nose of the plane blew out.

The Web site TMZ.com is reporting that Mays was struck in the head by something that fell from a luggage rack during the landing. He reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

Mays was the pitchman for several successful infomercial products, such as OxiClean, the AwesomeAuger and Orange Glo. He was also featured in an ESPN commercial to sell ESPN360.
