Glee star Charice Pempengco canceled a Tuesday performance in Singapore to fly to the Philippines in the wake of her estranged father’s death. According to reports, 40-year-old Ricky Pempengco died late Monday after being attacked in San Pedro Township.
Charice, who plays Sunshine Corazon on Glee, confirmed her father’s death on Twitter. “I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert," she wrote Tuesday. "I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family."
The Associated Press reports Ricky Pempengco was shopping at a San Pedro grocery store when he was stabbed to death with an ice pick by Angel Capili. The attack appears to have been random. Capili fled the scene and authorities are offering $470 for information leading to his arrest.
Despite being estranged from her father since she was a child, Charice expressed her love for him on Twitter Tuesday. “I loved him, and I will still love him. He's still my dad after all,” she wrote.
