Survivor winner Ethan Zohn is battling cancer again. The 37-year-old tells People magazine his Hodgkin’s lymphoma returned in September after 20 months of remission.
"It's localized in my lung area. But it's good that it's not all over my body,” he says.
When Zohn received the bad news on September 14, his longtime girlfriend Jenna Morasca was by his side. Zohn admits he and Morasca are “filled with fear,” but says he won’t let it define him. "We're both filled with fear and anger and anxiety and gratitude and frustration. But there's so much love there. It's this whole spectrum of emotions,” he said.
"I don't want fear or cancer to define me, but it's always in the back of your mind," Zohn explains.
In an effort to move forward and not let cancer hold him back, Zohn plans to run in the NYC Marathon on November 6. "The doctors think I'm crazy but they gave me the okay," he says. "Cancer isn't going to slow me down. I want people to know that you can still live a fulfilled life and move forward."
For now, Zohn is undergoing a new form of chemotherapy that won’t cause him to lose his hair. When he completes 12 weeks of chemo, he will undergo a stem-cell transplant.
Zohn was first diagnosed with cancer in April 2009. He is best known for winning Survivor: Africa in 2001. He competed in Survivor: All Stars in 2004 and then competed on The Amazing Race with Morasca earlier this year. Morasca won Survivor: The Amazon in 2003.
