An Illinois woman was killed early on Tuesday when a garbage truck struck her while she was crossing a street. This was a very unfortunate accident for the octogenarian, her family, and loved ones.
Sybilla Duncan, 81, stepped onto Center Street when a garbage truck owned by Allied Waste Services LLC of Bettendorf hit her. The driver of the truck Tiffany Goetz was travelling south on Center St. when she stopped the truck to make a right turn onto Main St. then struck the pedestrian, according to state police.
Duncan was taken to Hammond Henry Hospital by ambulance but was transferred to another hospital where she was pronounced dead. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The truck driver has not been cited at this time. When dealing with an accident that involves a fatality it is important to find an accomplished truck accident attorney to help with their defense.
The weight of large trucks can cause severe harm to pedestrians and passenger vehicle drivers. Sometimes these accidents are caused by the inattention of the truck driver. The victims of these accidents will need someone on their side, like a truck accident lawyer, who will make certain they get a settlement that will help them attend to their finances while they recover from their injuries.
No one intends to harm another, but distractions and fatigue can create hazardous situations on our roads. Truck accident attorneys make certain that when a driver is negligent, they are held fiscally accountable for the harm caused to others.
