North Carolina Man Lucky to be Alive After Truck Pile-up on I-85

An accident involving four large trucks on I-85 in Cabarrus County resulted in three injuries and one victim is lucky to be alive after being pinned in his truck by an 80,000 lb. concrete slab. 

The accident occurred around 11:35am in the northbound lanes of I-85. Fire crews were responding to a vehicle fire that caused traffic to slow down.

Justin Carrick was driving a work truck, hauling a trailer, when ran into the back of another truck carrying a slab of concrete, the impact caused the slab to come lose and land on Carrick’s truck, trapping him inside, setting off a chain reaction. Two other tractor-trailers then slammed into Carrick’s truck, according to The-Dispatch.com.

Carrick had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Jaws of Life. Carrick was lucky and did not sustain life-threatening injuries. He had a broken leg and injuries to his left side.  Two other passengers in his tuck were also injured.
