Las Vegas, NV. – Halloween proved to be tragic for a Las Vegas family when a 12 year old girl was struck by a drunk driver.
Faith Love, who was dressed as a Native American princess, was struck Monday night while trick-or-treating with family and friends.
A 41-year-old driver, Justin Caramanica, was speeding through a neighborhood when he struck Love. The posted speed in the area was 25 mph, but witnesses say he was going much faster. Police say that Caramanica smelled of alcohol and had glassy eyes, dilated pupils and slurred speach when they arrived on the scene of the accident.
After field sobriety tests, which Caramanica failed, he was placed under arrest for felony DUI. A breathalyzer showed that his blood alcohol content was 0.68; he was also under the influence of a narcotic which also inhibits a person’s ability to drive.
A DUI attorney can help people with their DUI arrest but when they involve a fatality they can expect to spend time in jail. Caramanica faces up to twenty years in prison of convicted and in his case it may be well-deserved.
DUI offenders do risk other safety, which is why the courts are so hard on them. With the help of a DWI lawyer, a first time offender, who hasn’t injured another, may see their charges reduced. DWI attorneys have extensive experience in navigating the courts and will represent their clients to the best of their abilities.
