Epicure Digital Presents How Digital Menu Boards Can Help Meet New School Foodservice Legislation

Epicure Digital, a leader in digital menu boards, presents the Epicure Digital Menu System with special emphasis on sustainability and nutritional menu labeling at the CSNA 2011 California School Nutrition Association Annual Conference at the Sacramento Convention Center, Sacramento, CA November 11-12, 2011, Booth #723.

The USDA released proposed nutrition standards for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs that are expected to go into effect for the 2012-2013 school year. School districts have the opportunity to work with their recipes to improve the nutritional content of them. They can also share the nutrition information of their meals to parents and post appropriate meal pattern guidelines in schools at the point of service on menu boards. This will help educate parents and students alike on the nutritional quality of their food choices.

“Going through the line to buy lunch in the school cafeteria can be a challenge for students”, according to Kim Blum, MS, RD, at KB Nutrition Consulting in Dallas, TX, a former USDA employee. “With so many choices, required meal components, new federal regulations, and possibly the need to identify allergen information, students may feel overwhelmed. It may benefit the schools to provide some of this information on menu boards at the point of service, so students are able to make informed selections”.

“Epicure Digital menu boards help students become aware of their choices, helping them make the right decision to achieve a balanced life by eating well” explained Harvey Friedman, Founder and President. “These systems provide tools to increase efficiency, revenues and profitability”.

Epicure Digital Systems is a digital menu board company uniquely integrating its expertise in software technology and food service operations and marketing to create digital signage products and services for the food service industry. Its core product is the Epicure Digital Menu System. Its core services are menu engineering, nutritional menu labeling, and content creation.
“Because food allergies and other food intolerances and sensitivities are on the rise in children, it is important for school meal programs to be able to recognize which recipes contain certain ingredients” explained Ms. Blum,  “By posting allergen information on their menu boards, schools can easily accommodate children with food intolerances and offer parents peace of mind, knowing meals that meet their child’s needs are easily identifiable and accessible”.

Epicure Digital specializes in developing sustainability and nutritional menu labeling systems to educate and inform students to make healthier meal choices. These nutritional labels display as nutritional data, nutritional scoring, and icons representing food groups, healthy choices, allergens, vegan, vegetarian, local and organic, whichever and whenever are applicable.

Epicure Digital’s clients include K-12 schools, colleges and universities, hospitals, independent and chain restaurants, contract food service companies, business & industry, and cinemas and casinos among others. The company’s website (http://www.epicuredigital.com) has an extensive portfolio of its client’s multi screen and multi station digital menu board projects.
Visitors at the CSNA Conference will be able to view animated versions of the Epicure Digital Menu Board System with sustainability and nutritional menu labeling on large LCD screens, including systems recently installed at K-12 school districts across the country.
