As the War on Terror in Iraq comes to a close, Foundations Recovery Network is pleased to announce their 35th annual conference, “Freedom & Recovery – Integrated Mental Health and Addiction Treatment for Service Members.” This timely and highly educational event will be held April 23-26, 2012, at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, CA. Mental health professionals will gain knowledge of effective practices for helping this unique population recover as well as handle continued service and civilian life.
First responders, veterans, and others in uniform are experiencing unprecedented rates of mental, emotional, and substance abuse disorders, as well as historically high suicide rates. In light of the demand to treat this special sector appropriately, this conference will allow participants to learn new and innovative trends and give them the opportunity to earn continuing education credits. “Foundations continues to lead the national conversations about integrated treatment,” says CEO Robert Waggener. He also states that this conference “will focus on the unique dynamics in serving this population, including psychological trauma and other integrated treatment challenges and clinical approaches."
The Freedom & Recovery conference includes 8 keynote addresses, including one from retired U.S. Officer General Barry McCaffrey, who received a Human Service Lifetime Achievement Award for Extraordinary Achievements in the Field of Substance Abuse. In all, over 45 speakers will present evidence-based therapies for treating both trauma and addiction.
