Researchers from Bowling Green State University have recently discovered that women who have college degrees have a better chance of avoiding divorce.
The researchers examined divorce rates for 2010 and found “a college degree has a protective effect against divorce among all races.” The study also noted that couples with college degrees have more stable unions.
In contrast, researchers also found that women in the next lowest risk category are women who did not graduate from high school.
Race plays a role in divorce rates as well. According to the study, Asian women have the lowest first time divorce rate. While Latino and Caucasian women have 18.1 percent and 16.3 percent divorce rates, respectively. African-American women have the highest divorce rate at 34 percent.
The study did not arrive at any conclusion as to why this may be true. There are a number of reasons that women decide to head to a divorce attorney to dissolve their marriages.
Women in their early twenties have one of the highest divorce rates. Close to 36.6 percent of women between 20 and 24 get divorced for the first time.
After a divorce lawyer ends the first union, the rate of divorce increases as the number of marriages increase. Second marriages end in divorce 60 percent of the time while third time marriages end 73 percent of the time. This shows the importance of retaining a highly-skilled divorce attorney.
