Nearly 100 Taliban insurgents were killed Tuesday night in Afghanistan after they launched an attack on an International Security Assistance Force base in the Barmal district of Paktika province.
According to a spokesman for the governor of Paktika, between 60 and 70 militants used small arms and rocket propelled grenades to attack the base. Afghan National Security Forces and NATO forces fought back and eventually killed all of the attackers. No NATO or Afghan soldiers were killed or wounded in the fire fight.
An investigation into the identities of the insurgents is underway. A Taliban spokesman has not commented. No other details were available.
