Sensory Networks releases StreamWeaver Multi-Gigabit IPS Accelerator

Sensory’s latest IDS/IPS solution inspects every byte of every packet in every stream at multi-gigabit rates, and is suitable for a wide range of IDP engines including native support for Snort

Sensory Networks, the leader in acceleration technology for network security applications, today released the latest version of their StreamWeaver IPS accelerator. This groundbreaking security solution enables equipment vendors to rapidly improve their Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention (IDS/IPS) products in terms of performance and protective capability. StreamWeaver requires minimal integration with an existing system and has the following features:

  • Multi-gigabit performance with all rules and stream reassembly enabled
  • Superior TCP stream reassembly and IP defragmentation modules to deliver complete protection against multi-packet attacks
  • Transparent accelerator architecture that seamlessly integrates with an existing IDS or IPS solution
  • Rapid, intelligent compilation of IDS/IPS databases, including native support for the BleedingSnort and Snort® rulesets
  • Removes bottlenecks in performance and flaws in security for standard Snort® installations

Existing IPS solutions often shortcut the amount of traffic they inspect, to keep their benchmark results high. For example, a default Snort installation only looks at the first 300 bytes of web server response traffic. This led to IPS installations world-wide suffering major security flaws when the WMF zero-day vulnerability hit last December. “IPS and IDS vendors need to provide real security against evasion-based attacks, without suffering performance drop-offs,” said Matt Jonkman, Project Leader for Bleeding Snort. “The StreamWeaver IPS accelerator from Sensory Networks is a great solution to this problem.”

“Standard processing platforms simply can’t cope with the combination of deep-packet inspection, cross-boundary analysis and high traffic rates,” said Darren Williams, CTO for Sensory Networks. “Our StreamWeaver IPS accelerator stops Snort and other IPS engines missing critical attacks.”
