Australian experts no longer consider bonded asbestos safe

The increasing numbers of natural disasters which have plagued Australia have prompted health experts to state that they can no longer consider bonded asbestos safe. At the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia’s Annual Scientific Meeting cancer experts agreed that floods, earthquakes, cyclones and brush fires put citizens at serious risk of asbestos exposure.

Bonded asbestos was used as a building material from 1945 to 1989, in Australia. Natural disaster and home renovations are putting citizens at a significantly higher risk of developing asbestos-related diseases by releasing the fibers into the environment.

Cases of asbestosis and mesothelioma are projected to rise as the number of natural disasters increase. Mesothelioma is a cancer which develops on the delicate linings of the lungs and other organs in the chest cavity. The treatments for this disease can be expensive and victims can hire mesothelioma attorneys to recover these costs.

Asbestos was commonly used in buildings throughout Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. It was prized for its fire-retardant properties and is present in ceiling tiles, insulation and carpeting. At the end of the 20th century, environmental advocates and lawsuits filed by mesothelioma lawyers made the public aware of the hazards asbestos can present to human health, and lead to strict regulations and outright bans on the use of the material.

As long as the asbestos is present in buildings, people will continue to need mesothelioma attorneys to obtain the compensation they deserve for the pain they endure.
