Planting a garden and tending the flowers as they grow into beautiful blossoms are among life’s precious joys. The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television spotlights a home-grown company that gives people with special needs an active role in the unique process of creating one-of-a-kind seed clusters. Alice Strong explains how her firm, Strong Marketing, is doing its part to help others. The segment airs July 1st and in the weeks that follow.
“We manufacture SeedBallz® for fun and profit, and to proudly support our community, especially those with developmental challenges,” she says.
“We like to think of SeedBallz as ‘candy’ for the garden,” she says, jokingly adding, “Just don’t eat them.”
“SeedBallz are spheres of clay, loaded with seeds and covered with our specially developed blend of organic materials.”
“We are changing lives one Seedball at a time,” she exclaims. People with developmental disabilities who hand-roll the ballz right here on American soil delight in the feel of clay molding in their hands. The rolling motion improves fine motor skills. Workers love coming to work – and going home with a paycheck – and a big smile. Their self-esteem skyrockets.
“We have taken the growing experience to the next level, from a single seed/single sprout to a ball of seeds and a thick cluster of flowers,” Strong says. “Take a Seedball and push it deep into the soil, but leave the surface uncovered. As you water them, the ballz sprout like little Chia pets and grow clusters of flowers.”
Strong Marketing and GardenBasket.com – both founded by Strong in 1986 -- have also come up with a line of gardening products for everyone, from hobbyists to professionals.
“It’s great to see products that benefit people, the community and an often overlooked segment of the population,” says Doug Campbell, Executive Vice President of Programming, BrandStar Entertainment, the producers of The Balancing Act. “Gardens with a helpful, philanthropic cause are certainly inspirational.”
