Freight Train Carrying Liquefied Natural Gas Derails and Explodes in Northern Italy, at least 10 Dead

A freight train carrying transporting liquefied natural gas in one of its cars derailed and exploded in the small northern Italian town of Viareggio killing at least ten people and leaving more than 40 injured.

 

The exact cause of the crash is unknown but as the cars from the train jumped the track they slammed into several homes, burying residents in the debris. Officials have reported seven of the dead were found in the collapsed homes while two more victims were on the road near the train tracks when the accident occurred.

 

Several of the inured suffered serious burns and rescue officials are still searching for victims possibly buried under the rubble of homes as well as two building that collapsed.
