A former Kingman high school student is suing the school district for failing to discipline a male teacher, who sexually harassed her.
There are countless incidents where people subjected to sexual misconduct must hire a sexual harassment attorney because authorities or supervisors do not address the issue or properly discipline the accused. This is the case of the student, identified as Jane Doe.
According to the lawsuit, ‘Jane Doe’ alleges that between 2008 and 2010, one of her teachers would send her inappropriate text messages and make inappropriate comments. Those comments included asking about her bra size and what kind of underwear she was wearing, telling her she had a perfect body and once asked her to climb on a table so he could look up her skirt. He also offered her $500 to strip for him.
The student initially reported the harassment to school officials. The school responded by sending her a letter stating that they conducted an investigation and disciplined the student. The teacher is still on the staff and the school said they would not put Doe’s younger sister in his classes.
The teacher has been accused of sexual harassment by other students. The school’s solution was to allow female students to take his course online. The school district feels they are taking the necessary step to make the school environment safe, but Doe’s father disagrees and felt a lawsuit was the best way to address the matter.
In numerous workplaces and schools, authorities fail to address the allegations and the victims feel their best recourse is to hire a sexual harassment lawyer. Although some victims seek out sexual harassment lawyers to obtain compensation, most just want to harassment to end and the offender to be dutifully punished, so they don’t subject other to the behavior.
