Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore announced their divorce Thursday, and now insiders have come forward with details on what led to the couple’s split. According to sources, both Kutcher and Moore have been unhappy in their marriage for some time, but they tried to work through “intense fighting” with counseling.
"Ashton is unhappy; [Demi]'s unhappy. It just got to a point where they had to end it,” one source tells People magazine.
"The fighting could get pretty intense," adds another insider. "Whatever counseling they did was fine for a quick fix but could not get to the heart of the problem."
In a statement released late Thursday, Moore said the decision to divorce after 6 years of marriage came with “great sadness.” "As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life,” she said. “This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation."
Kutcher added, "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail."
