An ambush carried out by more than fifty suspected Baluch separatist rebels left over a dozen paramilitary troops dead, Pakistani officials say. According to a military spokesman, the ambush took place Monday in Balochistan province’s Chamalang district where clashes between rebels and security personnel are very common.
The militants used rockets on the troops’ camp and a convoy of patrol vehicles traveling to Dukhi. Fifteen troops and an unknown number of militants died. Military spokesman Murtaza Beg said one senior military official is among the casualties. At least 10 troops were wounded.
Beg said a team of soldiers are searching mountains near the attack site for suspects. No group claimed responsibility for the attack. An investigation has been launched.
