Tow Truck Driver Killed While Helping Stranded Motorist

A tow truck driver was killed Sunday night in accident that occurred on the New York State Thruway outside Syracuse.

The accident occurred in the eastbound lane near exit 34 A. Todd S. Young, 53, was driving the tow truck for the Northern Lights Garage, and was attempting to help a stranded motorist. While Young was attempting to hook up the car, a tractor-trailer drifted out of his lane and sideswiped the tow truck. Young was outside of the truck and died on the scene.

The operator of the stranded vehicle was unharmed. Kurt Brown, 40, was driving for Estes Express at the time of the accident and was not injured. He was given a ticket for unsafe lane change.

The eastbound lane of the Thruway has to be closed while authorities cleared the scene.

The exact reason Brown drifted out of his lane is unclear. In numerous accidents, driver negligence play a part and when this can be proved, a truck accident attorney can file a lawsuit to seek compensatory damages for the victim’s family.

Accidents involving large commercial vehicles can cause severe damage to property or to a person. A truck accident lawyer will work to assure that any victim receives a fair settlement for the injuries they suffer.

Any financial settlement attained by a truck accident lawyer cannot replace a loved one or restore health but it can alleviate the financial burden accident victims must bear.
