With Tommy Lee declaring “Lukas, you’re our boy” the 29-year-old Lukas Rossi became the lead singer of a band that may be forced to change its name. The Toronto native was able to beat out Magni Asgeirsson of Iceland, Toby Rand from Australia and Dilana Robichaux a native of South Africa, to win Rock Star: Supernova.
After an 11 week television tryout Rossi was awarded the coveted position as lead singer of Supernova, joining Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke. Well that’s what they hope at least.
A California group has held the name Supernova since 1991 and sued CBS in June for violating their naming rights. A U.S. District Court judge issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday that forbids the new quartet from performing under the name Supernova.
For Rossi any name will be fine. The former Hooters cook has traded in his wings and seems set to live it up with Tommy. In a telephone interview with a Canada.com Lukas was asked what he is looking forward to most to which he responded “having some parties at Tommy's house.”
The new bands first show will be December 31, where they will headline a New Year’s Eve bash at The Joint in Las Vegas.
