Milwaukee Bucks Part Ways with Villanueva, Handle Jennings Remarks

The Milwaukee Bucks have had a busy week as they have allowed Charlie Villanueva to enter free agency and are dealing with rookie Brandon Jennings’ recent statements.

The Bucks made qualifying offers to restricted free agent guard Ramon Sessions and forward Ersan Ilyasova, but will not make an offer to forward Charlie Villanueva, which will allow Villanueva to become an unrestricted free agent.

The deadline for teams to make offers to their restricted free agents is Tuesday.

Villanueva has reportedly received interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are looking for a versatile forward to go along with LeBron James. The Cavs just traded for Shaquille O’Neal and lost Anderson Varejao to free agency. They are also interested in Rasheed Wallace and Antonio McDyess, according to reports.

Villanueva has a very good relationship with current Cavs guard Mo Williams from when they both played for Milwaukee. Villanueva also has a good relationship with James after the two played together in the McDonald’s All-American Game together in 2003.

The Detroit Pistons are also interested in Villanueva, according to the Detroit Free-Press. Villanueva averaged 16.2 points and 6.7 rebounds, both career-highs, for the Bucks last season.

In addition, Milwaukee has had to handle a recent situation with Jennings, their top pick in last week’s draft. In a speakerphone conversation with rapper Joe Budden, Jennings said he was confident that Sessions would not return to the team, boasted that he would beat out Luke Ridnour for the Bucks' starting point guard job and made a profane comment about the New York Knicks for not drafting him.

The clip was later posted on YouTube without Jennings’ knowledge that the conversation was even recorded. The clip has been taken down as of Monday.

Prior to the incident, there were already questions about Jennings’ maturity. Last year, he de-committed to Arizona, skipping college to play professionally in Italy for a year.
