Drug rehab is the most effective way for drug abusing criminal offenders to get their lives turned around for the better. Often times in the past, it was believed that if you locked up a drug abuser and thought him/her a lesson it would solve their addiction. That theory has proven to be not true for the majority. Locking someone up for a serious crime is one thing but, when addiction is part of the reason a person commits a crime the addiction is the first thing that needs to be fixed. An addicted person can go weeks, month’s even years with out using. Then all the sudden they have a craving for the drug and it’s all down hill from there. That’s why addicts who do jail/prison time can function without drugs and alcohol while they are incarcerated but, as soon as they get out they are using again.
Education is an important factor when helping an addict recover from drug addiction. Cognitive therapy coupled with cleansing the body completely of all drug toxins is also two of the most successful ways to ensure an addict recovers fully from addiction. When a person is addicted it’s hard for them to see things clearly but, once that veil of blackness has been lifted from their eyes they can start to see right from wrong again and make more rational decisions. Offenders with substance abuse problems usually have about a decade-long problem with drugs. This negates their abilities to function like other contributing members of society and puts them at greater risk of criminal activities. Educating the youth at the earliest ages possible is one thing we can do to help stop addiction before it starts.
