Rescue crews managed to pull a 14-year-old girl from the choppy waters of the Indian Ocean, the lone survivor from the Yemeni airliner the crashed off the coast of Comoros on Tuesday as is was attempting to land.
The flight, carrying 153 people on board, had taken off from the Yemen capital of Sanaa and was due to land in Comoros when it encountered bad weather. Many of the passengers had been French nationals who had originally flown from Paris to Yemen to catch the connecting flight to Comoros.
Officials originally thought there would be no survivors as the wreckage was difficult to locate and the conditions in the water were rough yet a French Rescuer spotted the teen-aged girl and after failing to secure her with a raft, jumped into the waters and had her pulled to safety.
The girl was taken to a hospital in the Comoros capital of Moroni where she was being treated and she is expected to recover. It is believed the girl was from Marseille and had been traveling with her mother to the island.
