Mexican officials say three abandoned vehicles discovered Thursday in Jalisco state were filled with the corpses of 26 men. According to the Notimex news agency, the cars were abandoned near a monument on a major street in Guadalajara. A message was left with the bodies, but officials with the Attorney General’s office refused to release any other details.
Thursday’s discovery came a day after 16 bodies were found in two burning vehicles in Sinaloa state. Interior Minister Alejandro Poire offered the assistance of the federal government in the investigations of both discoveries.
"I would like to express our solidarity and support to the governments and, in particular, let them know that the federal government will assist in investigating these cases, finding those responsible and making sure these crimes don't go unpunished," Poiré said.
