Woman Uses Pepper Spray On Fellow Black Friday Shoppers

A woman determined to take advantage of Wal-Mart’s Black Friday deals on Xbox and Wii gaming consoles used pepper spray to ward off other shoppers, Los Angeles police say. The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday night at a Porter-Ranch Wal-Mart.

According to witnesses, shoppers were pushing and shoving one another to get to the popular electronics first. It was then that the woman, who has not been identified, pulled out pepper spray and began spraying other shoppers. In all, 20 customers were hit with the pepper spray. Several of them were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The woman was not caught.

Witnesses spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the incident. "I heard screaming and I heard yelling. Moments later, my throat stung. I was coughing really bad and watering up,” 18-year-old Matthew Lopez said.

"People started screaming, pulling and pushing each other, and then the whole area filled up with pepper spray," Alejandra Seminario said. "I did not want to get involved. I was too scared. I just stayed in the toy aisle."
