The terminology that refers to specific medical and psychotherapeutic processes that treat dependency on psychoactive substances (alcohol, illegally trafficked painkillers, and what are called “street drugs”) is known as drug rehab, short for drug rehabilitation. These street drugs are cocaine (crack or powder), heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamines. These are also the ones that the DEA considers the primary drug threats in the US today. They are considered as being serious public health threats as well.
The goal or intent of any addiction treatment and recovery program is enabling the client to stop their substance abuse permanently so that they avoid all the consequences that result from their addictive behavior. There are two types of consequences. The primary ones directly reflect the dimensions of the human structure while the secondary ones reflect those that are associated with the human structure. They are as follows:
At the present time, there are literally hundreds of addiction treatment and recovery centers throughout the US that deal with alcohol and drug addiction. Unfortunately, not all of them take the primary and secondary consequences into consideration in there approach.
By targeted programs, we are referring to those drug rehab concepts that are needs-specific and target the individual based on their specific set of circumstances. One such program is the Christian drug rehabilitation. The many faith-based programs that are now available were developed in order to address the spiritual needs of the addicted individual so that they could supplement the recovery process with the teachings and writings found in the Bible.
It is the person’s desire and need to resume their spiritual walk that has led to the onset of these Christian drug rehab programs. Unfortunately, up until recent decades, the majority of the addiction treatment and recovery programs that have been available never really focused on the needs of their addictions other than the physical and psychological dependencies involved.
Addiction treatment and recovery programs are typically divided into two categories – the traditional or the alternative. Both types of programs exhibit the same goals and intentions, but the similarities between the two end there. The Delray Recovery Center offers those treatment and recovery therapies that are defined as alternatives to the traditional types, hence the fact that we offer Christian drug rehabilitation programs for the client that needs this.
