Eli Manning threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Plexico Burress in overtime to lift the N.Y. Giants over the Philadelphia Eagles 30-24. The road win improved the Giants record to 1-1 while the loss dropped the Eagles to 1-1.
Peyton Manning connected on three touchdown passes and broke Johnny Unitas’ franchise record for completions in the Colts 43-24 pounding of the Houston Texans. Indianapolis is now 2-0 while the Texans have fallen to 0-2 to start the year.
In the Dallas Cowboys home opener Terrell Owens broke a bone in the ring finger on his right hand but his team was able to knock out their divisional rival Washington Redskins 27-10. Drew Bledsoe threw two touchdowns and wide receiver Terry Glenn had six catches for 94 yards and a TD to move Dallas to 1-1 on the year while the Redskins fall for the second week in a row and are now 0-2.
Michael Vick ran for 127 yards and passed for another 92 in the Atlanta Falcons victory over the offensively challenged Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Warrick Dunn had his second big rushing week totaling 134 yards on his former team. Atlanta improved to 2-0, both divisional victories while Tampa is now 0-2 and yet to score a touchodown.
In other games, Minnesota is now 2-0 after an overtime field goal beat the 0-2 Carolina Panthers 16-13.
The New England Patriots start the year 2-0 after holding off the N.Y. Jets 24-17. The loss puts the Jets at 1-1 on the season.
The Chicago Bears backed by 4 touchdown passes from Rex Grossman and a rush defense that allowed only 46 yards beat the Detroit Lions 34-7. The Bears are 2-0, Lions fall to 0-2.
The San Diego Chargers racked up 476 total yards on the Tennessee Titans in their 40-7 victory. The charges moved to 2-0 while the Vince Young era in Tennessee is 0-2.
Carson Palmer threw for 352 yards and 2 touchdowns as the 2-0 Cincinnati Bengals defeated the 0-2 Cleveland Browns 34-17.
The Baltimore Ravens jumped to 2-0 after beating up on the 0-2 Oakland Raiders 28-6. The Ray Lewis lead defense held the Raiders to 39 yards on the ground.
New Orleans was able to overcome a 13-point deficit and improve to 2-0 after beating the 0-2 Green Bay Packers 34-27.
The 1-1 San Francisco 49ers’ used a 14 point 3rd quarter to overcome the St. Louis Rams 20-13. Frank Gore rushed for 127 yards for the 49ers and knocked the Rams down to 1-1.
Seattle moved to 2-0 after beating the Arizona Cardinals 21-10. The NFC champion Seahawks moved to 2-0 while the Cardinals fell to 1-1.
The Buffalo Bills went down to Miami and beat the Dolphins 16-6 to improve to 1-1 on the year while Miami fell to 0-2 despite 250 passing yards from Dante Culpepper.
In a battle of field goals the Denver Broncos beat the Kansas City Chiefs 9-6 in Denver. The Broncos are now 1-1 while the Chiefs drop to 0-2.
Pittsburgh travels to Jacksonville in the Monday night match-up of 1-0 teams. The defending Super Bowl champion Steelers look to knock out their AFC rival Jaguars. The Steelers will more than likely keep Ben Roethlisberger out for the second week after undergoing an appendectomy.
