Comedian Patrice O’Neal Dies At 41

Patrice O’Neal, a New York-based comedian who appeared on sitcoms like Arrested Development and The Office, died Monday at the age of 41. His death was confirmed by Gregg Hughes of the Opie and Anthony SiriusXM radio show. O’Neal was a regular guest on the show.

"Yes it's true that our pal Patrice O'Neal has passed away. The funniest and best thinker i've ever known PERIOD. #devastated,” Hughes Tweeted Tuesday.

O’Neal recently had health issues. He suffered a stroke in October that was linked to his diabetes. In a statement released Tuesday, O’Neal’s booking agent said he died of complications of the stroke. "Many of us have lost a close and loved friend; all of us have lost a true comic genius. His mother, who was also his best friend, was at his side," the statement said. "Patrice is survived by his wife, Vondecarlo; his step daughter Aymilyon, sister Zinder, and his mother Georgia. The family wishes to thank all of the fans and friends who have expressed an outpouring of love and support for Patrice these past weeks. We ask that you please respect the family’s request for privacy at this difficult time."

The comic got his start in the early ‘90s and later scored guest roles on popular TV shows, including Yes Dear, Chappelle Show and Assy McGee. He filmed numerous half-hour specials for Showtime, HBO and Comedy Central. O’Neal also took small roles in several films, including Scary Movie 4 and Furry Vengeance. His last on screen performance was in September on the Comedy Central roast of Charlie Sheen.
