Former Australian Idol winner, Kate DeAraugo, speaks out about her body image and the full body liposuction she underwent after her 2005 victory.
DeAraugo spoke about her size, how she has battled with her weight for most of her life and while she was in the spotlight. After she won Idol her weight loss attempts failed so she decided to undergo full body liposuction, fearing that her success was hindered by her weight.
DeAraugo said that she spent two years writing and recording an album which she says they can’t market and she believes it’s because of her weight and not her voice. She will be appearing on a reality weight loss show Excess Baggage where she revealed the liposuction procedure.
For celebrities, body image is very important and most will go to great lengths to attain their ideal physique. This often entails strict diets and regular physical exercise, but for some that may not be enough and often turn to cosmetic surgery procedures like liposuction to trim and tone their figures.
Liposuction has helped many people contour their figures, but isn’t meant to be a method for weight loss. The ideal candidate for liposuction is the person has lost excess weight and has been able to maintain that weight.
Plastic surgeries including liposuction can help a person boost their self-esteem, which in turns will help boost their career, but it isn’t a cure all for a negative body image.
