Illegal Immigration Fears Lead to the Suicide of Texas Student

An 18 year old Texas student took his life last Friday because he feared he would never be able to go to college.

The teen, Joaquin Luna dressed in a suit and shot himself in the bathroom of his home. His family stated that Luna left letters that lamented over having his chances to attended college dashed after the DREAM Act failed to pass.

The DREAM Act was intended to help children of illegal immigrants attend college and serve in the military in the hopes that one day they would be able to become legally recognized citizens.

Illegal immigrants often choose to bring their children into the country and immigration attorneys or take the steps to obtain legal documentation.

Luna was a good student with A and B grades but his hopes of attending college were crushed when the DREAM Act failed. He would not be eligible for scholarships or loans because he was illegal. His future seemed bleak so he decided to take his own life.

Luna’s parents brought his to the states when he was young, much like numerous young immigrants. Although immigration lawyers can help some people become legal, many people find it a time consuming process and arduous process. They make decisions about the future of their children without thinking of the future consequences.

Becoming a legal resident with citizenship or a visa is the best route to take when attempting to relocate in America. Illegal immigrants are advised to seek the counsel of an immigration attorney before the make a decision that will adversely affect their future or the future of their children.
