Wimbledon 2009 Quarterfinals Results: Roger Federer Punches Ticket to Semifinals After Straight Set Win Over Ivo Karlovic

Roger Federer has returned to the semifinals at Wimbledon and inched closer to capturing his sixth title at the All England Club after taking care of Ivo Karlovic in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) on Wednesday.

Federer managed to get past Karlovic in large part due to his ability to limit his unforced errors, totaling just seven in the match compared to 17 by his Croatian opponent. Federer collected 39 winners and while he had just seven aces he did win an astounding 94 percent of his first serves put in play and didn’t allow Karlovic a single break point opportunity.

Federer is sitting on 14 career Grand Slam singles titles, tying him with Pete Sampras for most all time. He recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam for Federer as he has won Wimbledon five times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
