Ben Roethlisberger returns in Steelers first shutout loss since 2003; Jacksonville manages 3 field goals in 9-0 win.

Jacksonville jumped to 2-0 after handing Pittsburg their first shutout since their December 14, 2003 loss to the N.Y. Jets. The Jaguars used three Josh Scobee field goals to defeat the Steelers 9-0 before the 67,000 in attendance at ALLTELL stadium in Jacksonville.

The defending Super Bowl champions could not overcome the defensive pressure of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Ben Roethlisberger struggled in his return to the Steelers lineup. Pittsburg could manage only 26 yards on the ground as Roethlisberger threw for 141 yards and two fourth quarter interceptions.

The Jaguar defense allowed only 9 first downs and 153 yards of total offense to a Steelers offense that struggled all night. Jacksonville held their opponents to 23 fewer plays from scrimmage and made Pittsburg just the third defending Super Bowl champion to suffer a shutout loss in their follow-up year.

Byron Leftwich threw for 260 yards and Fred Taylor led the ground assault with 92 yards rushing as the Jaguars offense held a 15 minute advantage in time of possession. The loss dropped the Steelers to 1-1.

The 9-0 final was the lowest scoring total in the history of Monday night football.
