Michael Jackson: Does Fame Hide Drug Addiction

Many celebrity have died from substance abuse

The shocking and tragic death of Michael Jackson was not the first celebrity death in which drug addiction played a part.

Even though we will not know the exact nature of Jackson’s death for several weeks, the reports from his friends and family suggest that Jackson was continually battling
drug addiction.

The sources say that Jackson had sought drug treatment several times and that he most recently spent several hours a day at a outpatient drug rehab.

Jackson is not the first celebrity death attributed to drug addiction.  Over the years Hollywood has had more than its fair share of
drug abuse related deaths.
  • Actor Heath Ledger was found dead of an overdose in his apartment in Manhattan. Ledger was 28.
  • Anna Nicole Smith died at the age of 39 from accidental overdose of chloral hydrate and other prescription drugs.
  • River Phoenix died as a result of taking a combination of cocaine and heroin outside of the night club The Viper Room. He was 23 years old.
  • At the age of 36, Marilyn Monroe died in her sleep of barbiturate poisoning (an overdose of sleeping pills). To this day, no one knows for sure whether her death was a suicide or homicide.
These are just a few of the deaths. Death is not the only consequence of drug use. Richard Pryor once set himself on fire during a drug induced psychosis.

It seems the celebrity lifestyle is the perfect cover for drug abuse.  Stars are not limited in the way of funds and they are surrounded by staff whose job it is to cater to their every whim.

In the end however the addictions facing stars are no different than any other
drug addict faces.  Drug use becomes more important than careers or even lives.  The consequences of use grow and grow until the addict is either forced to deal with the situation or the addict dies.

This is what we are seeing in the cases of celebrity deaths.  The drug addiction is not handled and grows to be a huge problem.  In the case of celebrity it seems that the drug addiction has more time to grow without consequences.
