Colibrys New Strong Motion Accelerometer Helping Save Lives in The World's Earthquake Zones

Colibrys (Switzerland) Ltd, Neuchatel Switzerland announced today the release of the SF1600S, a state of the art MEMS based Seismic accelerometer. The new SF1600S.A is a fit-form-function replacement of the former SF1500S.A whilst offering marginally improved noise performance. The new accelerometer is fully ROHS compliant and is manufactured in Switzerland as such is classified free of export license.

The SF1600S features very low noise performance (typically 300 ngrms/√Hz), high dynamic range, high linearity (<0.2%) operating across a ±3g full scale range. This robust accelerometer has already been qualified into multiple applications worldwide including scientific instrumentation, seismic data mapping (free field) studies and structural and building/facilities monitoring applications (SHM). With a high resolution (>22 bit) the sensor offers sophisticated algorithm development derived from detailed signal analysis at significantly lower costs than legacy FBA technology based sensors. The SF1600 is ideal for strong motion applications such as earthquake and seismology measurements, homeland and border security or structural monitoring.

This new single axis sensor (SF1600S) will also be available in a 3 axis configuration namely the SF3600. The design of the new triaxial product is compatible with the SF1600 accelerometer.

This product has already been deployed in recent earthquake disaster zones such as those recently reported in Haiti, Chile, Italy, Japan, New Zealand and most recently Turkey.

About Colibrys:
Colibrys is a world-leading supplier of standard and semi-custom MEMS based motion sensors to the harsh-environments (Military, Aerospace and Energy) and safety critical (Industrial and Instrumentation) applications. COLIBRYS family of motion sensors includes extremely low noise and shock resistant seismic sensors, high stability high shock inertial accelerometers and DC coupled capacitive tilt, shock and vibration sensors. COLIBRYS is based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Additional information is available at www.colibrys.com.

This year Colibrys is celebrating its 10 year Anniversary. The company was created in 2001 as a spin-off from the Swiss Center of Electronics and Microelectronics (CSEM) having been active for some 30 years in the research, development and manufacturing of silicon based Microelectro-mechanical (MEMS) micro-systems. All operational activities from product design through to manufacture are based within the one site in Neuchâtel Switzerland.

About MEMS Technology:
MEMS (Micro-Electrical-Mechanical Systems) are highly miniaturized devices that integrate a number of functions including fluidics, optics, mechanics and electronics on a single silicon chip using techniques similar to traditional integrated circuit process technology. MEMS merge sensing, actuating, and computing into miniature systems that enable enhanced levels of perception, control and performance.
