What is Darvocet?

Darvocet or Darvon is the trade name for the analgesic opioid whose technical name is Dextropropoxyphene. It is used as a local anesthetic and an anti-tussive but is more commonly used to treat mild pain. It is related to methadone, a synthetic narcotic and is a powerfully addictive drug. Those who abuse the drug or take it recreationally do so by chewing it, crushing it and then snorting the powder, crushing it and dissolving it in water so it can be injected, or just take it orally.

Darvocet addiction and side effects

There are a number of different side effects that are typically witnessed whenever you take Darvocet including:

• abdominal pain
• constipation
• depression
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• elated feelings
• hallucinations
• headaches
• kidney problems
• lightheadedness
• liver problems
• minor visual disturbances
• nausea
• sedation
• skin rashes
• vomiting
• weakness
• yellowed eyes or skin

Given the similarities that Darvocet has to Methadone, it should come as no surprise that the drug is as addictive as has been witnessed in the past. “Clinical Pharmacology”, a renowned medical journal has argued that Darvocet’s addictive qualities are the drug’s most prominent side effects. As with any other narcotic, Darvocet produces physiological and psychological dependence.

Darvocet drug rehab

The treatment of and recovery from Darvocet addiction is similar to those programs that are applied to other drugs. As a result, many of the addiction treatment and recovery centers throughout the US today offer Darvocet drug rehab programs. Unfortunately, many of them don’t result in their clients recovering successfully from their addictions and they eventually relapse once they return home to their communities.
