Users of the Fnacbook, the e-reader recently presented by Fnac, have the help of Dixio, the smart dictionary. The new device, besides being in Spanish, provides users with the possibility of looking up the meaning of words they come across while reading, thanks to the innovative dictionary technology developed by Semantix, the only one of its kind in the world. This e-reader, manufactured by Bq, is the second Spanish device with its own store.
The version of Dixio included in the e-reader provides immediate response each time. When you tap twice on the word you don’t understand, Dixio instantly provides you with its definición, without disturbing your reading. Fnacbook users have more than have a million dictionary entries at their disposal thanks to Dixio:
- Diccionario Clave de uso del español actual by Ediciones SM,
- Wordnet, and
- the Semantix Spanish-English, English-Spanish dictionary.
Another of the properties of the Dixio version developed by Semantix for the Movistar e-reader is that it recognises words that do not have their own dictionary entries. For instance, if the user can touch a conjugated verb (“has left”), plurals (“flowers”) or female words in Spanish (“hermana”), derivatives (“smallish”) or verbal forms with atonic pronouns in Spanish (“cómetelo”) and Dixio will always go to the main dictionary entry (“leave”, “flower”, “hermano”, “small”, “comer”).
However, the feature that distinguishes Dixio from other digital dictionaries is its contextual disambiguation. Because “tied” does not mean the same thing in “tongue tied” as in “tied house “, and “tail” does not mean the same thing in “dog’s tail” as in “on my tail”. When you touch “tied” or “tail” in these expressions, Dixio analyses the context, detects the language and immediately provides the best definition or translation in a pop-up window. Dixio uses the Sematix language engine to perform this analysis, integrating both linguistic processes and natural language and artificial intelligence processing components.
About Dixio
Besides the version for e-readers, Dixio is also available in its Dixio Desktop modalities for PC, MAC and Linux both locally and online, and Dixio ForWeb for websites or Dixio Mobile for online mobiles.
Dixio operates with more than 100 dictionaries, so users have more than 23 million words at their disposal. It also provides permanent access to the latest information with encyclopaedic sources such as Wikipedia.
